Even though he played on two different teams, the 2024 season was the best statistical season of Dodson’s career. Staring the year with the Seattle Seahawks, Dodson recorded two sacks, 71 tackles, five tackles-for-loss, and three quarterback hits through the first nine games. At the time, he was Seattle’s leading tackler and appeared to be a key piece for a team fighting for a playoff spot.
However, the Seahawks surprisingly cut him midway through the season. The former undrafted free agent landed with the Miami Dolphins and recorded 36 tackles and one quarterback hit over the final eight games of the regular season. While he played well, it wasn’t enough to put the team in the playoffs. Throughout the course of the season, Dodson recorded 107 tackles.
Tyrel Dodson originally entered the league as an undrafted free agent following the 2019 NFL Draft. After failing to appear in a regular season game as a true rookie, the Texas A&M product made his professional debut in 2020 with the Buffalo Bills. Appearing in 10 games while making two starts, Dodson recorded one sack, 22 tackles, and two tackles-for-loss while playing a backup role. With his help, Buffalo made it to the AFC Championship but ultimately lost to the Kansas City Chiefs.
After playing a similar role in 2021 and 2022, Dodson finally had the opportunity to prove himself in 2023. Playing a key role in the defense, the former undrafted free agent recorded 2.5 sacks, 74 tackles, eight tackles-for-loss, and six quarterback hits.
Since signing his rookie contract, Tyrel Dodson has appeared in 76 games while making 27 starts. While on the field, the linebacker has recorded 6.5 sacks, 250 tackles, 16 tackles-for-loss, and 11 quarterback hits.
