The Cleveland Browns are at a crossroads. After a disappointing season marred by Deshawn Watson’s injury and a hefty negative cap space (-$25 million), they need a significant roster overhaul offensively. Fortunately, they possess ample draft capital to facilitate this rebuild. This seven-round mock draft focuses on addressing their key needs, starting with the most crucial position: quarterback.
The Browns face a daunting salary cap situation with several key free agents, including Nick Chubb and Devin Bush. Deciding who to re-sign and who to let walk will be crucial for their cap management. Finding a long-term solution at quarterback is paramount, as neither Deshaun Watson nor Dorian Thompson-Robinson have inspired confidence. I don’t include Jameis Winston as I don’t think he will come back (but if he does, they may just roll with him for another year and see what happens).
The Browns have glaring needs on offense, particularly at quarterback, running back, wide receiver depth, and offensive line. While their defense is relatively strong, they could use depth at edge rusher and in the secondary. Finding a reliable kicker is also a priority.
With Shedeur Sanders going first overall, the Browns land their potential franchise quarterback in Cam Ward. Ward is a talented passer with the arm talent and accuracy to thrive in Stefanski’s offense. He can make all the throws and possesses the mobility to extend plays.
This dynamic receiver adds another weapon to the Browns’ offense. He possesses excellent route-running ability, speed, and explosiveness, making him a perfect complement to Jerry Jeudy.
MBow is a versatile offensive lineman capable of playing both guard and tackle. He provides valuable depth and competition on the offensive line and could potentially push for a starting role.
Ratledge is a powerful run blocker who fits the Browns’ offensive line mold. He adds depth and competition at guard and could develop into a starter.
Gillotte is an athletic freak with exceptional pass-rushing skills. He adds depth and versatility to the Browns’ defense and could contribute as a situational pass rusher early in his career.
Marshall Jr. is a big, physical cornerback with good speed and coverage skills. He adds depth and competition to the Browns’ secondary and could develop into a starter.
Lachey is a well-rounded tight end with good hands, blocking skills, and football IQ. He provides depth at tight end and could contribute as a receiver and blocker.
Mills is a versatile defensive lineman with a high motor and the ability to play multiple positions. He adds depth and competition to the Browns’ defensive line.
This tough, hard-nosed runner adds depth to the Browns’ backfield. He could compete for a significant role if the Browns move on from Nick Chubb.
Bailey is a versatile linebacker who can play both inside and outside. He adds depth and athleticism to the Browns’ linebacker corps and could contribute on special teams.
This back adds further depth to the Browns’ running back room and could contribute in short-yardage situations.
White is a speedy receiver with good route-running ability and separation skills. He adds depth to the Browns’ receiving corps and could potentially develop into a slot receiver. White is also one of the best special teams players in this class.
This mock draft addresses many of the Cleveland Browns’ needs. They find their potential quarterback of the future in Cam Ward, add weapons on offense, and bolster their depth on both sides of the ball. With a few smart free-agent signings, this draft class could lay the foundation for a successful new era in Cleveland.
What do you think, Browns fans? Does this draft get the Dawg Pound barking?
I hope this has helped you prepare for this season and the upcoming NFL Draft season.
