The New York Giants made the bold decision to bench and then release former No. 6 overall pick Daniel Jones earlier this week.
According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, "no team is expected to claim the balance of Jones' contract -- $11,833,333 for this season in addition to the $23 million in injury guarantees for after this season -- making him officially free to sign with another team after 4 p.m. ET on Monday."
When he does officially hit free agency, Schefter suggested he'll have his pick of a few different playoff teams. However, the ESPN NFL insider revealed the two "likeliest" teams - both in playoff contention.
He named the Baltimore Ravens and Minnesota Vikings as the most likely landing spots for Jones, but added that they're "hardly the only ones" trying to land a quality backup quarterback for the stretch run.
"The Baltimore Ravens and Minnesota Vikings are two of the likeliest teams to land free-agent quarterback Daniel Jones, per sources. But they are hardly the only ones. Jones wants to sign with a playoff contender, and what happens in Week 12 is expected to influence his decision," Schefter said.
The former first-round quarterback signed a lucrative four-year, $160 million contract after he finished the 2022 NFL season with 3,205 passing yards with 15 touchdowns and just five interceptions while adding another 708 yards and seven touchdowns on the ground.
During his Giants career, he amassed 14,582 passing yards with 70 touchdowns and 47 interceptions while adding another 2,179 yards and 15 touchdowns on the ground - with seven lost fumbles.
Now he could be heading from the 2-8 New York Giants to a team getting ready for a run in the playoffs.
