Eight-year veteran quarterback Cooper Rush signed a new contract with the Baltimore Ravens. Rush, a former undrafted free agent, spent most of his career with the Dallas Cowboys but spent a short stint with the New York Giants in 2020.

Cooper Rush, Baltimore Ravens, Agree to Contract

Cooper Rush enters free agency on the heels of what could very well be the best season of his professional career. Starting eight games in place of an injured Dak Prescott, the quarterback went 4-4 while completing 60.7% of his passes for 1,844 yards, 12 touchdowns, and five interceptions. Despite his solid play off the bench, he couldn’t get the team to the playoffs. Following the season, head coach Mike McCarthy left the team and Dallas hired longtime coordinator Brian Schottenheimer as their next head coach.

Rush originally entered the league as an undrafted free agent following the 2017 NFL Draft. Signing with the Dallas Cowboys, the Central Michigan product hardly saw the field during his first three years in the league. Exclusively playing in garbage time, Rush completed just one of his three professional attempts for two yards before the 2021 season. Following Andy Dalton’s departure in 2020, Rush finally became the primary backup in 2021. Appearing in five games while making one start, the longtime veteran finished his first stretch of extended play with 422 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception.

Dak Prescott missed a portion of the 2022 season, allowing Rush more extended playing time. Making five starts while going 4-1, the former undrafted free agent completed 58.0% of his passes for 1,051 yards, five touchdowns, and three interceptions. He returned to the bench in 2023 and only saw the field late in games. In total, he completed 18 of his 24 attempts for 144 yards, no touchdowns, and no interceptions.

Since signing his rookie contract, Cooper Rush has appeared in 38 games while making 14 starts. While on the field, the quarterback has gone 9-5 while completing 60.7% of his passes for 3,463 yards, 20 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions.
