After falling short in the Super Bowl against the Philadelphia Eagles, the Kansas City Chiefs aim to go on another deep postseason run this upcoming season. However, the Chiefs have plenty of work to do to ensure that happens, as they were thoroughly exposed in the Super Bowl.
The Chiefs were beaten so severely in the Super Bowl that it may have knocked off some of the perceived invincibility. With most teams around the league improving this offseason, the Chiefs cannot afford not to improve this offseason at several positions.
Kansas City has been in a league of its own over the past five seasons. However, opposing teams have been determined to close the gap between them and the Chiefs. If the Chiefs fail to improve, opposing teams will have accomplished that goal.
To sustain their run of success, the Chiefs must improve their roster immediately while also making plans for the future.
Reese Decker of the Pro Football Network recently released bold NFL Draft predictions for every team in the National Football League. Decker believes the Chiefs will draft Travis Kelce's replacement.
"This draft class has strong depth at TE, and with Travis Kelce likely entering his final season, Kansas City could make its move. The Chiefs hosted Bowling Green’s Harold Fannin Jr. on a top-30 visit and are reportedly interested in LSU’s Mason Taylor as well," Decker said.
"With underwhelming production from the wide receivers, don’t be surprised if Kansas City targets a tight end in the first three rounds and shifts toward more 12 personnel sets in 2025.
While it is difficult to imagine Kelce playing for another team after this season or retiring altogether, it is indisputable that he is not what he once was, which is okay. Father Time is undefeated, which is no different for Kelce.
Still, after Kelce spent weeks deciding on his playing future at the end of this past season, the Chiefs must do what is best for the organization and prepare for his inevitable departure. To ensure they are set for the future, they must do this in the draft, not at the season's end.
