Aaron Rodgers Has Clear Problem With Jets Coach Aaron Glenn

Aaron Rodgers made his first appearance on The Pat McAfee Show since the New York Jets released him. The quarterback had plenty to say about how Aaron Glenn and the organization handled the end of their working relationship.

Speaking to McAfee on Thursday, Rodgers claimed he traveled to the East Coast "on my own dime" to meet with the new Jets regime before learning that the new head coach wasn't bringing him back. The four-time MVP envisioned a lengthy meeting but got something completely different.

"We start talking, and [Glenn] runs out of the room," Rodgers recalled. "I'm like, that's kind of strange. Then he comes back with the GM, and I'm like, all right. So we sit down in the office, and I think we're going to have this long conversation. I've flown across the country, and 20 seconds in, he goes ... 'You sure you want to play football?' I was like, 'Yeah, I'm interested.' And he said, 'We're going in a different direction at quarterback.'"

Rodgers said he was "shocked" at how the meeting unfolded. He didn't understand why they couldn't have told him that decision over the phone.

He claimed the Jets were more curious to hear how Rodgers wanted them to announce the release. Rodgers told them he "doesn't give a s**t about the messaging."

When Rodgers asked why they were releasing him, Glenn responded that he didn't want players "looking back at you" while he was speaking at a meeting. Rodgers didn't seem to appreciate the assumption that he'd undermine his coach.

"I said, 'You don't know me.' And he said, 'You don't know me.' And then I said, 'Exactly,'" Rodgers said. "'Which is why I flew across the country to have a face-to-face meeting with you to talk about my experience with the Jets and to hear your vision for the team.'"

Rodgers said a meeting he thought would last hours ended in 15 minutes. Considering his Jets tenure "a debacle in some cases," he had no interest in pleading for his job.

"I wasn't upset about it, I was surprised," Rodgers said. "I felt like there wasn't an ample amount of respect in that meeting, but I guess I shouldn't have been surprised based on some of the things I saw over the two years."
