Arizona Cardinals-Calais Campbell Agree On 1-Year Deal

The Arizona Cardinals and Defensive End Calais Campbell agreed to a one-year $5.5 million contract Tuesday night. His contract is worth a maximum of $7.5 million. Campbell was reportedly mulling retirement but has decided to return to where his career began for an 18th career season. Campbell had 52 tackles and 5 sacks last season with the Miami Dolphins.

Campbell is no stranger to the Arizona Cardinals. He was drafted by the team in the second round of the 2008 NFL Draft and played for them between 2008 to 2016. Campbell’s career has included stints with the Jacksonville Jaguars, Baltimore Ravens, Atlanta Falcons, and Miami Dolphins. He is a six-time Pro Bowler and finished second in DPOY voting in 2017. Campbell has 917 total tackles, 110.5 sacks, 18 forced fumbles, and 3 interceptions. How will Campbell play for the Arizona Cardinals in 2025?

Arizona Cardinals Season Outlook

Campbell joins a Cardinals defense that was poor in 2024. They were 21st in yards allowed and 20th against the run. He was the best defender in the league against the run last season and the seventh best-rated defensive lineman according to PFF. Even though Campbell is one of the league’s oldest players, he is still a solid piece.

The Cardinals have made a concerted effort to upgrade their defense this offseason. They signed Linebacker Josh Sweat and Defensive Tackle Dalvin Tomlinson. Head Coach Jonathan Gannon, in his third year on the job, will have a much better defense at his disposal in 2025.

Final Thoughts

Arizona is fortunate that Campbell decided to return to the NFL and return to the spot where his career began. He has proven over his lengthy career he is a great defensive player. Campbell will look to continue being a positive presence in his 18th season.
