Unless they make a few trade downs at certain picks, expect most, if not all the Atlanta Falcons draft on the defensive side of the ball. With Michael Penix Jr. now leading the way despite Kirk Cousins still on the roster, there is the potential for a trade either this weekend or down the line, closer to the new season starting. After finishing 8-9, they will have to do a bit more to win the NFC South. Although Penix took strides to end the year off, will that be enough for a playoff berth in 2025?

Team Needs

The Atlanta Falcons could use anything on defense, but on offense, they could always use an offensive line depth, as well as a third wide receiver. Tight end is another position that is shaky, depending on whether they want to stick it out with Kyle Pitts for another season. After losing their starting center, the Falcons could target one on day two or three of the 2025 NFL Draft. Atlanta hasn’t had a decent edge rusher in what seems like a decade, and they will have plenty of options in round one.

7- Round Mock Draft

  • Round 1: No. 15- Mykel Williams (EDGE) Georgia
  • Round 2: No. 46- Benjamin Morrison (CB) Notre Dame
  • Round 4: No. 118- Jared Wilson (C) Georgia
  • Round 7: No. 218 (from CLE)- Maxen Hook (S) Toledo
  • Round 7: No. 242 (from LAR)- Eugene Asante (LB) Auburn

Mock Draft Analysis

With just five picks in the 2025 NFL Draft, I would expect they move down on day two or three to potentially get back into the 3rd, 5th, and 6th rounds. But in this mock draft using PFN’s simulator, I went all defensive heavy besides one selection, as they need more reinforcements on that side of the ball.

Although Mike Green from Marshall is a popular pick with the 15th overall selection, Mykel Williams from Georgia makes potentially more sense as well. Williams could play more base defensive end and make an instant impact as a run defender and line disruptor near the interior. The Atlanta Falcons have speedy, smaller edge players on the outside, but they could use some length and size at the edge position.

Final Thoughts

Their other pressing needs, besides center and edge, include the secondary. The Falcons could use a corner to pair with A.J. Terrell, along with some safety depth. Their group of linebackers could also use some work with an addition or two, as well as a defensive tackle, depending on what type of pass rusher they go for. Atlanta will need to bolster their defense to compete against the likes of Baker Mayfield and Bryce Young.
