Bills Cut Matt Milano Contract and Roster Future
Jamie Germano - USA TODAY

Matt Milano, a mainstay of the Buffalo Bills' defense over the past few years, agreed to restructure his contract on Tuesday and in return the team voided the final year of his deal making him a free agent at the end of the season.

Milano agreed to a new deal worth $3.6 million less, but he can earn them back through play time incentives. Milano will now make a base salary of $6,306,500 with $5,631,000 guaranteed this season, according to OvertheCap.com.

The deal was first reported on social media by Bleacher Report's Jordan Schultz.

The restructuring of Milano’s contract results in a reduction of his 2025 cap hit to $12.8 million. The move opens approximately $3.6 million in cap space which the Bills desperately need. The salary cap for this season will be $279.2 million.

Milano, who will be 31 years old, will more than likely test the free agent waters after the season if he does not get extended during the season.

Milano was drafted in the fifth round of the 2017 NFL Draft. He has certainly been a great value pick by general manager Brandon Beane. He made the Pro Bowl and was an All-Pro in 2022. He has been a solid player for Bills despite injuries which have curtailed his career.

In the last two seasons he was able to play in just nine regular-season games and three playoff games. The Bills are counting on Milano to give them a full season in 2025 and they have to keep him healthy.
