The Buffalo Bills and James Cook aren't exactly seeing eye to eye right now, with the running back wanting a new contract.
Set to play on his rookie deal, the Bills have two weeks to decide whether they will let Cook play on the final year of his contract or look to move him for some draft capital in what is a deep running back class.
Having rushed for over 1,000 yards in his last two seasons, and last year rushed for a total of 19 touchdowns (including playoffs), Cook is in the form of his life, but it might not be worth the $15 million APY he is reportedly wanting.
This brings us to the draft, which might be fascinating to watch for a host of reasons, one of which might be what Buffalo does with Cook.
For writer Gilberto Manzano, in what he calls a "dream draft scenario," the Bills trade away Cook and take Ohio State stud Quinshon Judkins.
"Cook was instrumental in the success Josh Allen had last season, but he’s not on the level of Derrick Henry, Saquon Barkley and Christian McCaffrey to command a contract worth around $15 million per year," Manzano writes. "With a high asking price and depth at running back in the draft, Buffalo would jump at the opportunity to flip Cook for a third-round pick.
"This dream scenario becomes even sweeter if the Bills take Judkins, the bruising running back out of Ohio State, in the first or second round."
It is, to be sure, a blockbuster idea.
We floated this theory a week or so ago that Buffalo had to make a decision on Cook, and we imagine there would be a couple of suitors for his services if the relationship between him and the franchise couldn't be repaired.
Having rushed for at least 1,000 yards and 14 touchdowns in each of his three seasons with the Buckeyes, Judkins could come in and potentially be Buffalo's starting back behind Josh Allen.
The Bills have stated how much they want Cook to stay in Buffalo, but this is a business, and at $15 million APY, can the franchise justify that? In a little under two weeks, we might find out.
