Buccaneers Create Significant Salary Cap Space

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are at it again. General Manager Jason Licht has once again created more salary cap space with the stroke of a pen.

Via Fox Sports Greg Auman,

“Bucs have restructured the contract of tackle Tristan Wirfs to create cap space — $26 million base salary converted to $1.17 million and bonus (pro-rated over five years) so that creates $19.86 million in new cap space, more than covering the team’s initial wave of signings.”

This is standard operating procedure for the best General Manager in the league, Jason Licht. As Auman points out, this move more than covers what the team has spent in free agency thus far.

Now the question is, what is Licht’s next move? Another restructure or an extension for quarterback Baker Mayfield? Maybe a trade or release of defensive back Jamel Dean? Time will tell, but for now the Pewter Pirates are cap compliant and will look to make more moves heading into the NFL draft.
