The 4-4 Tampa Bay Buccaneers travel to Kansas City to take on the 7-0 Chiefs on Monday Night Football.
The Buccaneers are coming off a tough 31-26 loss to the Atlanta Falcons. Quarterback Baker Mayfield played admirably considering he was down his top two wide receivers in Mike Evans and Chris Godwin, throwing for 330 yards and three touchdowns.
Tight end Cade Otton has been very productive during the last two weeks, totaling 17 receptions for 181 yards and two touchdowns. Tampa Bay trails the Falcons by one game for the NFC South lead.
The Chiefs remained the NFL's only undefeated team after beating the Las Vegas Raiders 27-20 last week. Tight end Travis Kelce snagged a season-high 10 receptions and found the endzone for the first time this season.
Wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins made his Chiefs debut with two catches on three targets. His volume should ramp up this week as he gets a full week of practice under his belt. Kansas City's defense continues to be dominant, ranking in the top five in total defense, rushing defense and points allowed.
Let's take a look at the odds and best bets for this matchup.
*Odds from DraftKings sportsbook and subject to change
Chiefs: -455
Buccaneers: +350
.
The Chiefs are notorious for playing close games and winning the hard way, but two of their last three wins have been by double-digits. Even though the Bucs' offense performed valiantly without Evans and Godwin last week, being without them is going to make a world of difference against a defense like Kansas City's.
The Chiefs' offense hasn't quite put it all together yet, but I think it finally will in this game. Tampa Bay's defense ranks in the bottom five of the NFL in total yards, passing yards and points allowed. With Kelce now up and running and Hopkins set to take a prominent role, I like K.C. to win big. Avoid the moneyline and bet the Chiefs to cover the spread.
Chiefs: -8.5 (-108)
Buccaneers: +8.5 (-112)
The Chiefs should do their thing on defense and have a breakout performance offensively for a big victory.
Over: -112
Under: -108
I like K.C. to score into the 30s in this game, leaving the Bucs to need to score somewhere in the mid-teens, which I believe they can do. Bet the over.
In most years this would be a given, but it's been a rough go for Mahomes statistically in 2024. However, he had one of his best games of the season last week as he threw for 262 yards and two touchdowns. This week he faces a poor Bucs' pass defense, and his newest weapon - DeAndre Hopkins - should be ready to make a big impact.
The Chiefs have struggled against tight ends all year, surrendering the most receptions and yards in the NFL to the position. Otton has come on in a big way over the last two weeks and is Mayfield's top receiving option. Otton has scored three touchdowns over his past three games.
