It would appear that the Bucs secondary might not be as light on cornerbacks as once feared ahead of Sunday’s matchup with the Detroit Lions. Cornerback Zyon McCollum’s injury status improved from being a limited participant on Wednesday to a full participant on Thursday as he continues to work his way back from suffering a concussion against the Washington Commanders.
Unfortunately, the same can’t be said for starting right tackle Luke Goedeke, who was a surprise addition to the injury report yesterday after displaying concussion-like symptoms in practice, likely stemming from the game against the Commanders. Of the Bucs’ five limited participants in yesterday’s practice, Goedeke is the only player not to have been a full participant on Thursday. Additionally, defensive back Tykee Smith popped up on today’s report as he did not practice due to an illness.
If Goedeke is unable to play, then veteran backup Justin Skule will have to slide into the starting spot in Detroit. All-Pro tackle Tristan Wirfs sounded confident in Skule’s ability to start if called upon.
“Skule knows what to do and how to do it better than anyone I know,” Wirfs said. “I tell him just that: ‘Go be a dog, go do what you know how to do, and we’ll have a day.’”
