At Washington State and Miami, quarterback Cam Ward wore No. 1 on his jersey. As the No. 1 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, it only seems fitting that he'd continue to wear the number at the NFL level.
However, he was drafted by the Tennessee Titans, and the greatest quarterback in franchise history also wore No. 1. Hall of Famer Warren Moon was recently non-committal on giving Ward his blessing to wear the number.
Though Moon didn't play for the Titans technically, he is still an important part of the franchise due to his time with the Houston Oilers.
Ward likely would've changed his number had he not gotten the blessing from Moon, but it's not going to be a problem. During the quarterback's introductory press conference, Moon made a surprise appearance and gifted Ward his No. 1 Titans jersey.
Moon explained that he's been very impressed with the young quarterback's journey. Similar to Moon, Ward had to work his way up. He wasn't highly recruited out of high school and had to play Division II football.

He eventually worked his way to Miami, one of the top college football programs in the country, and now he was the top player selected in the NFL Draft.
Moon did note that he'd potentially feel differently if he had to give away his Oilers jersey number, but since that team doesn't exist anymore, he has less of a problem with it. Moon is the greatest quarterback in franchise history, so Ward has some very big shoes to fill.
