Cardinals Met With Arizona State Star at NFL Combine

The team met with the biggest star from the Arizona State football team's 2024 roster.

According to PHNX Cardinals, the Cardinals had an informal interview with ASU running back Cam Skattebo.

Skattebo had a monster 2024 season for the Sun Devils.

As the focal point of their offense, he racked up 1711 rushing yards and added 605 receiving yards. He also contributed 24 total touchdown on his way to finishing fifth in the Heisman voting.

Even in a loaded running back class, Skattebo is going to get plenty of attention before the draft.

However, the Cardinals don't really need a running back right now. James Conner showed he still has plenty left in the tank during the 2024 season and his contract isn't cuttable until next offseason.

They also just spent a third-round pick on Trey Benson in last year's draft.

Still, drafting Skattebo is a move that would make local fans happy whether or not it's a necessary addition.

Skattebo is a local hero after the huge part that he played in turning around the Arizona State football program and leading them to the Peach Bowl.

If the Cardinals draft him, ASU fans will show up to watch him play, which would be helpful for a Cardinals franchise that needs to sell some more tickets.

From a football standpoint, adding Skattebo only makes sense if the team has already decided they got the Benson pick wrong.

Even if they haven't given up on Benson, fans could probably give them a pass for drafting Skattebo just because of what he meant to the Phoenix area this past college football season.
