Kyler Murray is entrenched as the starting quarterback of the Arizona Cardinals heading into the 2025 season, but the former No. 1 overall pick will now have an experienced veteran backing him up.
Free-agent quarterback Jacoby Brissett plans to sign with the Cardinals, according to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler.

Brissett spent the 2024 season with the New England Patriots, which was his second stint with the team. The Patriots originally drafted the former NC State star in the third round in 2016. Brissett served as a backup behind Tom Brady for a season as a rookie before he was traded to the Indianapolis Colts.
The 32-year-old Brissett entered last season as the Patriots' starting quarterback. He made five starts and led the team to a 1-4 record before being benched for rookie Drake Maye.
Brissett also started 30 games for the Colts and made 11 starts with the Cleveland Browns in 2022.
While Brissett is 19-34 in his career as a starter, having a backup with that much experience can be extremely valuable for an NFL team.
The Cardinals finished 8-9 last season after Murray made his way back from a knee injury that cut his 2023 campaign short. Brissett will provide Arizona with a nice insurance policy behind its dual-threat starting quarterback.
