Chargers Land Ravens’ Superstar TE in Recent Trade Prediction

It’s no secret that the Los Angeles Chargers are in the market for an impactful pass catcher any way they can get their hands on one.

Outside of rookie Ladd McConkey, they got little to no production from their receivers and tight ends last season.

The Chargers signed former New York Jets tight end Tyler Conklin earlier this offseason, but that feels more like a band-aid than a long-term solution to their problems.

In all fairness, the free agent market for tight ends wasn’t very intriguing, so it seems that the draft is LA’s best shot at securing the future of the position.

However, recent reporting on a star AFC tight end reveals that the Chargers might be able to make a trade.

There has been speculation over the last few weeks that the Baltimore Ravens could look to move franchise legend Mark Andrews.

With Los Angeles desperately needing a high caliber pass catcher, they’ve been roped into the discussions.

ESPN’s Bill Barnwell created a mock draft last week that included trades, and he predicted that the Chargers and Ravens would pull of a blockbuster.

Barnwell thinks that offensive lineman Zion Johnson and the No. 22 overall pick will go to the Ravens in return for Andrews.

The three-time pro bowler saw a dip in production last season, but it had much more to do with the emergence of young stud Isaiah Likely than regression.

Even in what was considered a down year, Andrews still amassed nearly 700 yards and reeled in 11 touchdowns.

He certainly is past his prime, but just his production from last season would be a god send for the Chargers.

They’ve only seen a tight end surpass 600 yards twice since Hall of Famer Antonio Gates retired, both of which came from Hunter Henry who the team moved on from because of injury concerns.

Essentially, Andrews is not the same player that he once was, but even this diminished version of him is much more than the Chargers could ever hope for.

Ravens head coach John Harbaugh has publicly stated his desire for the former All-Pro to be back in Baltimore next season, but he ultimately doesn’t have the final say.

Andrews is on the last year of his deal and pushing 30, so with the emergence of Likely, there’s little hope that Baltimore will give him another contract.

If they decide to get out in front of his free agency and take what they can get for him in a trade, the Chargers need to be first in line making an offer.
