Chicago Bears Sign Veteran DB Nick McCloud

The Chicago Bears continue to bolster their special teams unit with the addition of veteran defensive back Nick McCloud on a one-year deal. In his career, McCloud has been a core special teams player, contributing to kick return, kick coverage, punt return, punt coverage, and field goal block teams. This comes after the recent additions of Devin Duvernay, Olamide Zaccheus, and Durham Smythe, all of whom contribute significant snaps on special teams

McCloud, who will turn 27 years old in July, has been in the NFL for four seasons. The Bears will be his fourth team in four years. He entered the league as an undrafted free agent out of Notre Dame. He has played in 48 games and 16 career starts. He is a cornerback by trade with experience playing in the slot. But most of his snaps for the Bears will be on special teams, barring an injury to Kyler Gordon.

McCloud is one of the better gunners around the league for punt coverage units. The Bears needed a new gunner with Jaylon Jones departing to the Arizona Cardinals. Maybe they got an upgrade in McCloud. Time will tell.
