Chiefs' Andy Reid Details 'Hurt' At Super Bowl Loss

The Kansas City Chiefs fell to a heartbreaking 40-22 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in the Super Bowl at the Caesars Superdome in a dominating performance from the NFC champs.

Patrick Mahomes was sacked six times and, at one stage late in the first half, had just 34 passing yards and two interceptions with the Eagles' defense borderline unstoppable.

Xavier Worthy was a shining light with 157 receiving yards and two touchdowns, but there was precious little to get excited about at any stage of the contest for Chiefs Kingdom as the three-peat chance was put to bed early in the second quarter.

"Listen, they all hurt," Reid said of the loss post-game. "You get this far, you battled your tail off to get this far, very hard to do. We spent a lot of time doing this, so it's going to hurt, they all hurt when you get to this level."

Given the Chiefs were so close to history in becoming the first-ever NFL team to win three straight Super Bowls, the manner in which they lost will no doubt just rub salt into the wounds.

The game was never close, and after such a long season and all the work that was put in, during the biggest game of the season, the Chiefs appeared outmatched in every facet for the first time all year.

The Eagles pummeled them in New Orleans, and the lessons that will be learned from this will be harsh ones - and indeed, the coach made a point to mention that both coaches and player need to learn from this and get better as a result.

KC put together an amazing season topped by an "almost'' finish.

But in the end? The lopsided loss leaves Kansas City and Reid with one overriding feeling.

This one hurts.
