The Kansas City Chiefs entered Monday's previously postponed game against the New England Patriots without defensive tackle and sack leader Chris Jones.
Jones tallied 3.5 sacks across the first three games of the season but was limited in midweek practice sessions because of a groin injury, as ESPN's Adam Teicher wrote. The 26-year-old was third in the NFL in sacks in 2018 with 15.5.
Teicher added that Mike Pennel will likely replace Jones in the lineup. Pennel missed the first two games of the campaign because of a league suspension. Per Pete Sweeney of Arrowhead Pride, the NFL twice suspended Pennel for violations of the league's substance-abuse policy during his tenure with the Green Bay Packers.
The NFL postponed the Patriots-Chiefs showdown from Sunday to Monday after New England quarterback Cam Newton tested positive for the coronavirus. Journeyman Brian Hoyer is expected to start in place of Newton for at least Monday's game.
The Patriots will also be without running back Sony Michel, who is carrying a quad injury. James White and Rex Burkhead will shift up the New England depth chart.
Burkhead had two rushing scores and a receiving touchdown in a Sept. 27 win over the Las Vegas Raiders.
