Chiefs Rumor Projects Cooper Kupp Trade from Rams

The Los Angeles Rams have decided to trade away receiver Cooper Kupp, an idea that should sound familiar to fans of the Kansas City Chiefs.

While the Rams work to get their business in order - they are also rumored to be considering a move with QB Matthew Stafford - the Kansas City Chiefs have a more immediate task at hand.

On Sunday comes Super Bowl 59 against the Eagles  ... and the hope for an unprecedented three-peat.

And almost immediately after that, because this is the way the NFL works ... it's back to the grindstone to put together the 2025 edition of the team.

The wife of Matthew Stafford, Kelly Stafford, recently lamented the coming loss of Kupp while promising that her husband is ready to keep playing.

"It had been speculated that he wants to play again in 2025," Kelly said on The Morning After podcast. "That speculation is right. The thing is, there's a lot to figure out before that can happen. But you know, he had a great year. I was talking to him, and he's like, 'I know. I feel pretty good, you know. Not many injuries, no surgeries. Just the four cracked ribs and multiple injuries that were small but significant’. He would like to play in 2025. I'm excited."

Meanwhile, the Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes will also want to be healing up ... as the organization muscles up with talent.

Can Kupp be part of that KC future?

Back in October ahead of the trade deadline, we know that the Chiefs talked to the Rams about a Kupp swap. As it worked out, the Chiefs instead moved on to the Tennessee Titans to acquire DeAndre Hopkins.

One issue now, as we put rumors aside: Does KC need him?

Kupp, who presently comes with massive cap hit of nearly $30 million in 2025 alone and another $27 million in 2026, is injury-prone and in his 30s.

Meanwhile, the Chiefs have Rashee Rice (rehabbing) and Xavier Worthy at the top of the depth chart.

So need isn't glaring. And even if the pick cost is low, the contract price (while negotiable) is high.

In short, what looked like an almost-match in October looks like less of one now.
