Pat McAfee has become one of ESPN's biggest names, but he's under fire after a college student is threatening legal action following comments made by the former NFL punter.

Last month on "The Pat McAfee Show," McAfee referenced a story he heard that "captivated the internet."

“Some Ole Miss frat bro had a (Kappa Delta) girlfriend. At this exact moment, this is what is being reported by … everybody on the internet: Dad had sex with son’s girlfriend,” McAfee said on the February 26th episode of his show on ESPN.

The story was completely fabricated, a rumor made up to harass a college student. That student is now speaking out, and she says she's prepared to sue McAfee after the rumor for "ruining her life."

“I would like people to be held accountable for what they’ve done,” said Ole Miss student Mary Kate Cornett in an interview with The Athletic.

“You’re ruining my life by talking about it on your show for nothing but attention, but here I am staying up until 5 in the morning, every night, throwing up, not eating because I’m so anxious about what’s going to happen for the rest of my life.”

Cornett says that her family has also been harassed, and that she's had to move into emergency housing and take online classes.

“The only way I could describe it is it’s like you’re walking with your daughter on the street, holding her hand, and a car mirror snags her shirt and starts dragging her down the road. And all you can do is watch,” Cornett's father said.

“You can’t catch the car. You can’t stop it from happening. You just have to sit there and watch your kid be destroyed.”

Other outlets like Barstool and sports radio shows around the country amplified the story, putting more pressure and scrutiny on Cornett and her family.

“When the more popular people started posting, that’s when it really, really changed,” the student said.

McAfee has included a disclaimer at the beginning of his show instructing those who may be offended by it to not sue him. After Cornett's family's comments this week, it seems that they're prepared to take the former Indianapolis Colt to court.
