The Washington Commanders had a host of weapons last season that helped Jayden Daniels and coordinator Kliff Kingsbury average 28.5 points per game.
Terry McLaurin, Zach Ertz, Noah Brown, Olamide Zaccheaus, and Dyami Brown were the main contributors to the passing game, but now, the group has been beefed up.
With Zaccheaus out and Deebo Samuel in, Daniels has an All-Pro weapon at his disposal, and with so many weapons, which include the running backs who can be options in the pass game, there are a lot of mouths to feed with only one football.
For Daniels, in talking on the Gruden Goes Long podcast, he has a simple message for his loaded offense in 2025 when it comes to each player getting their lick of the ice-cream.
“I don't dictate where the ball is going, so that's what I tell them every time,” Daniels said. “You going to get the ball, I'm gonna make sure you get the football, but I don't dictate, the defense want to take away you, and that means somebody else is open. So at the end of the day, I know everybody wants to make an impact on the game, but common goal, we want to win, I want to do whatever it takes to win.”
McLaurin, Samuel, and Ertz loom as Jayden's "big three" on offense, and one can easily envision most of the passing attack going through that trio.
That leaves Brown and Luke McCaffrey, along with others, to fight for the rest of the reps.
But Daniels won't be favoring one player over another, if you can get open, you're getting the ball. It's really that simple.
Granted, McLaurin and Deebo will get more shots than most, but the one thing Daniels won't be doing is force-feeding the ball to one player.
And for a young quarterback looking to take the next step in Year 2, that's a good way to go about your business.
