The Washington Commanders drafted an offensive linemen in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft to protect Jayden Daniels. With their second-round pick, they decided to bolster their secondary.
In a recent article by PFF, they give a grade to every Day 2 pick. They labeled just a few picks as "elite", but the Commanders drafting Ole Miss cornerback Trey Amos at No. 61 was one of those picks.
"Amos brings elite speed and strong movement skills to the Commanders’ defense," PFF wrote. "He earned an 85.6 coverage grade in 2024, forcing 13 incompletions and recording three interceptions. A standout at the Senior Bowl, Amos showcases good instincts in zone coverage and has the size and athleticism to lock down opposing receivers in man coverage."
The Commanders allowed the third-fewest passing yards in the league in 2024, so adding another potentially elite corner could put the team over the top.
Not only did Amos record four interceptions in his senior season at Ole Miss, but he also showed his versatility by forcing a fumble, and racking up 50 combined tackles, four of them being for a loss.
Star corner Marshon Lattimore only played in two games after the Commanders traded for him at the deadline in 2024. But now that he will be back on the field, combining him with a young defensive back like Amos could make the team's secondary even scarier than it already was.
