Philadelphia’s Jake Elliott has been a fan favorite since 2017 when he kicked a game-winning, 61-yard field goal against the Giants with 13 seconds left. He’s less popular these days but still not as bad as many Eagles fans think.
Elliott missed a pair of extra points in Philadelphia’s 28-22 victory over the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday. The first came after the team’s initial score, a 44-yard touchdown run by quarterback Jalen Hurts.
The Rams answered with a touchdown of their own on the next drive and led the game 7-6 thanks to Elliott’s miss. His second gaffe came after running back Saquon Barkley's 78-yard touchdown run with 4:36 left in the fourth quarter.
By that point, the Eagles were up 28-15, but fans grew nervous once the Rams scored a touchdown to pull within six points with 2:48 remaining. Thanks to Elliot’s misses, L.A. got within 13 yards of scoring what could have been a game-winning touchdown before turning the ball over on downs with 31 seconds left in the game.
Before the game, Elliott hadn’t missed an extra point since Week 11 against the Commanders but did miss a career-high eight field goals in the regular season, going 1-7 on kicks of 50 yards or more.
So what’s wrong with the kicker fans once referred to as, “Jake the Make?” Maybe nothing. After all, he did make three field goals on a windy-snow covered field on Sunday.

Elliott wasn’t mentioned in Nick Sirianni’s news conference on Monday and the head coach talked briefly of his performance on kickoffs immediately after the game.
The soon-to-be 30-year-old kicker signed a four-year, $24M contract last offseason, tying him with Baltimore’s Justin Tucker as the NFL’s third-highest-paid kicker. Tucker also had a down year, making a career-low 73.3% of field goals in 2024, but unlike Elliott, the five-time All-Pro isn’t on the verge of setting a postseason record.
Per John Breech of CBS Sports, Elliott has the second-most field goals in NFL playoff history without a miss and sits nine kicks behind longtime Bears and 49ers kicker Robbie Gould (29) for the record.
In other words, while Elliott may be having a down year, the team has no choice but to remain confident in their kicker, even on extra points.
