The Las Vegas Raiders have found their new head coach after going through an extensive search.
According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Raiders have reached a deal with former Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll on a three-year deal with a fourth-year team option.
Carroll took the 2024 season off after he was moved upstairs by the Seahawks but is ready to resume his coaching career. He'll take over a Raiders team that is ready to start winning after going 4-13 during the 2024 season.
The Raiders have missed the playoffs three seasons in a row and haven't won a playoff game since the 2002 season. They got to Super Bowl XXXVII before losing to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, 48-21.
Carroll joins an AFC West division that is loaded with great head coaches, including Andy Reid, Jim Harbaugh, and Sean Payton. Carroll and Harbaugh had some great battles when the Seahawks-49ers rivalry was arguably the best in the NFL during the early 2010s.
The Seahawks reached new heights under Carroll, winning Super Bowl XLVIII against the Denver Broncos before almost repeating the next year in Super Bowl XLIX. Carroll led the Seahawks to the playoffs 10 times and finished with a 137-89-1 regular season record with the Seahawks.
In 18 seasons as an NFL head coach, he has compiled a 170-120-1 regular season record and is 11-11 in the playoffs.
The Raiders are hopeful that he can change the culture since it's been a bit stale for the last few years. Minority owner Tom Brady was a big part of this search since he's committed to turning this thing around.
With Carroll going to the Raiders, the only two teams without a head coach are the Dallas Cowboys and New Orleans Saints. Both teams are taking their time since they want to get their respective hires right.
