Cooper DeJean Gets Strong Message From Iowa Football
Trevor Ruszkowski-USA TODAY Sports

Philadelphia Eagles rookie Cooper DeJean put forth a career effort in Sunday's Super Bowl LIX victory over the Kansas City Chiefs.

On his 22nd birthday, DeJean recorded his first NFL interception — a pick-six off Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes to give the Eagles a 17-0 lead in the second quarter.

DeJean was a crucial factor for the Philadelphia defense that completely shutdown Mahomes in the Eagles' 40-22 victory. In addition to his interception returned for a touchdown, the rookie cornerback also logged three tackles.

After a stellar college football career with the Iowa Hawkeyes, DeJean entered the league as the Eagles' No. 40 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.

DeJean is the pride of Iowa Football after Sunday's night's Super Bowl performance.

The Hawkeyes football program has shared several social media posts congratulating DeJean on his impressive accomplishments. The team even changed its X profile photo to a picture of DeJean holding the Lombardi Trophy.

"DevelopmentU The University Of Iowa," DeJean wrote in response to that decision.

DeJean played three seasons for the Hawkeyes from 2021-23. Over that time, he recorded 120 tackles, 13 passes defended and seven interceptions — three of which were returned for touchdowns.

"I was trying to find the fastest way to the end zone," DeJean said of his crucial pick-six during a postgame interview. "Luckily, I got some blocks out there. I had to avoid some of those big guys, but it was just our defense working together like we have all year. It fell right into my lap.”
