Cooper Kupp Breaks Silence On Impending Rams Departure

After weeks of rumors and hearsay surrounding his name, Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Cooper Kupp is speaking out on his impending departure from LA for the first time since he announced it on Feb. 3.

Following the Rams' 2024 campaign, which saw them secure an NFC West division title before being knocked out of the playoffs by the eventual Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles, the team's front office informed Kupp that it planned to move on from him in the coming offseason.

Now, Kupp is going on the record as his time in Los Angeles is seemingly all but over. In an exclusive interview with the Los Angeles Times, the 31-year-old wideout said he was told of the team's decision within days of their Divisional Round loss to Philadelphia.

“In that moment, I made the decision that I didn’t want this to be a bitter thing in terms of our ending there,” he said. “I try to keep it as positive as possible and just be forward thinking about how to walk out of there and be able to shake each other’s hands and move forward."

The 2021 NFL Offensive Player of the Year helped lead Los Angeles to a Super Bowl victory over the Cincinnati Bengals that same season. Kupp reeled in eight catches for 92 yards and two touchdowns and was subsequently named the Super Bowl LVI MVP.

Just three years later, however, the Rams appear to be headed in a different direction. With the emergence of 23-year-old wideout Puka Nacua and LA's signing of six-time Pro Bowl receiver Davante Adams, all signs point towards Kupp playing for a different squad in 2025.

Kupp, who has spent all nine years of his NFL career in Los Angeles, admitted that he's gone through all kinds of emotions in the last month or so. Nevertheless, he also expressed that he's ready to move on with his life and suit up wherever he may land this coming fall.

“The Rams want to move on from me,” he said. “And I’m in this place right now where I get to go out there, and I’m so excited to be able to produce for another football team.”
