Cowboys Could Find 'Ideal' RB In Round 2

The Dallas Cowboys' run game last season was one of the worst in football until Rico Dowdle was handed the starting duties.

While the rushing attack improved with Rico, it wasn't where it needed to be, and now under new head coach Brian Schottenheimer, there is a big emphasis on running the football.

Javonte Williams and Miles Sanders were signed in free agency, giving Dallas four backs with Deuce Vaughn and Malik Davis the others on the roster.

But with the want to have a younger, stud back, the Cowboys, for most, will target a running back in the early rounds, and for NFL.com's Chad Reuter, Dallas' ideal second-round pick would be Ohio State star TreVeyon Henderson.

"Dallas would surely love for Ashton Jeanty to fall to 12, but that's unlikely," NFL.Reuter writes. "Finding Henderson available at 44 would be good value, as he'll offer more wiggle and explosiveness than free-agent signees Miles Sanders and Javonte Williams."

Henderson rushed for 1,016 yards and 10 touchdowns for the Buckeyes last season, and he would bring his bruising style to The Star.

Running a 4.43 40-yard dash, Henderson would inject some much-needed speed into a Cowboys run game that has precious little of it last season. A genuine third-down back, perhaps one of Henderson's best traits is his pass-protection skills, something that Schottenheimer would like.

Capable of making defenders miss, Henderson has the speed to turn a short three-yard gain into a 15-yard gain at the drop of a hat, something that the Cowboys also missed last season.

It isn't known if Henderson would come in and be the starter from Day 1, but he has the skills and potential to move quickly up the depth chart in training camp, and as a second-round pick, that is exactly what will be expected of him.
