Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott will be one of the highest-paid players in the NFL this fall unless the club gets him to agree to a long-term extension before July 15.
On Monday, ESPN's Adam Schefter and others confirmed that the signal-caller who turns 27 years old in July signed his exclusive franchise tender worth $31.4 million. Dallas will continue to negotiate with Prescott's camp through July 15 in an attempt to ease current and future salary-cap concerns.
While speaking on ESPN's "Get Up" earlier in the day, Schefter explained the Cowboys and Prescott weren't any closer to a deal than they were over the weekend:
Prescott's status remains one of the more polarizing topics of the NFL offseason as the Cowboys continue to ponder how much salary to devote to the QB not knowing how the ongoing coronavirus pandemic will affect cap space beyond 2020. Prescott has been the team's full-time starter since Dallas drafted him in 2016, and he's led the club to 40 victories across his 64 regular-season outings.
Critics may, however, suggest he was more a passenger than a driver for many of those victories, that he's only won a single playoff contest in three tries, and that he's not in the MVP tier of QBs currently dominated by Patrick Mahomes, Lamar Jackson, Aaron Rodgers, Tom Brady, Russell Wilson, and Drew Brees.
