Cowboys Jerry Jones Draft Visit Photo Sparks Controversy

FRISCO — Everything about the NFL offseason has become widely popularized in this modern era. From the coaching carousel up to the schedule release, the league has made all these events key dates on the calendar.

That translates to the 32 teams. Less than two weeks out from the NFL Draft, fans are starved for any rumors or hints about the future of their franchise. That's why supporters of the Dallas Cowboys are keeping close tabs on the team's 30 visits to The Star.

The Cowboys are getting their final meetings and conversations in with prospects, a number of which they are considering for selection with the No. 12 overall pick. This week, a photo involving one potential target went viral.

Former Texas wideout Matthew Golden was seen with Cowboys' owner Jerry Jones post visit at The Star. Golden will likely be one of the first offensive players off the board on draft day and would be a real fit behind CeeDee Lamb as the team's No. 2 receiver.

This sparked a post on X from NFL insider Albert Breer, praising the 82-year-old for his continued involvement with all that goes on with the Cowboys. That shoutout then enraged some Cowboys fans who have grown understandably frustrated with the run-of-show for the last few decades.

Frankly, Jerry himself is solely to blame for fueling that fire. Just weeks ago, he proved responsible for the major roadblock that has since delayed contract extension talks with Micah Parsons.

Fans have their reasons to gripe certainly, but that all ignores the consistent truth about the Cowboys' operations: Jerry has his hands on all of it. That tends to be the case when you wear all three hats of owner, general manager and president.

At his age it is certainly admirable he keeps himself active and involved in these decisions. Conversely, that often leads to one side of him interfering with the other, causing more commotion than need be for even the simplest decisions, like striking a deal with your star players before the price goes up.

But it is no secret that Jerry has operated his way for years and that will not suddenly change regardless of a rapidly evolving landscape around him.

Oftentimes, that proves to the Cowboys detriment and last season provided a perfect storm of all the issues coming together. However, he, and by default Cowboys fans, continue to hold onto the hope of that process finally giving way to a breakthrough.
