Dallas Cowboys cornerback Trevon Diggs has been bitten by the injury bug over the past two seasons with an ACL injury in 2023, and knee cartiledge issues ending his 2024 season after 11 games.
Such was the gravity of Trevon's injury that there is a thought that he might miss some time in 2025 - maybe the first half of the year - with Diggs potentially opening the season on the PUP list.
But with the nature of the injury, the Cowboys will likely be playing the cautious approach with their All-Pro corner.
However that doesn't mean they don't know when he'll be back.
Owner Jerry Jones said Dallas has a good idea of when Trevon could return, but also offered a little shot at the corner's previous injury rehab.
“We have a good idea," Jones said. "He’s working hard. That’s very important because if he will be very good and diligent in his rehab process then he’ll get back quicker. And when he does get back, he’ll be sounder. If he has not worked as hard, he is more subject to injury. He’s learned that one time.
"I have a lot of hope that his actual rehab and experience from the time before is really helping him out. I think it is.”
That's a subtle poke that confirms a long-standing rumor ... that Dallas was displeased with Diggs' commitment to rehab the last time around.
So, what about this time?
Diggs is making good progress, but the uncertainty of how healthy he will be in the early part of the season meant the Cowboys looked to the draft for cover with Shavon Revel Jr. being selected in the third round.
With Diggs, DaRon Bland, and now Revel. Jr, that is a decent trio of corners, but with Diggs the crown jewel of the secondary, getting him back on the field is crucial to Dallas' chances in 2025.
It will be a slow process, and one the Cowboys won't rush, given Diggs' injury history over the past two years, but it is clear lessons have been learned and Trevon is now implementing them into his rehab in a bid to get back bigger and better.
