FRISCO - Micah Parsons is trying to build his way to being a Super Bowl champion.
And he's trying to build his brand.
Dallas Cowboys fans might take issue with his focus level on that second goal - in fact, Cowboys management itself might grumble about it at times, too - but the superstar defensive leader of "America's Team'' now believes he has 100 million more reasons to try to do it all.
Being a "media guy'' is nothing new in Dallas. Consider the number of Cowboys-tied personalities who've made it big nationally, or who've been given the chance to do so, in part because they played here.
Roger Staubach. Don Meredith. Troy Aikman. Michael Irvin. Emmitt Smith. Jason Witten. Daryl Johnston. Keyshawn Johnson. Jason Garrett. Brian Baldinger. Tony Romo. Marcus Spears. Darren Woodson. Chris Canty. Mike Ditka. Daryl Johnson. Jimmy Johnson. Isaiah Stanback. Deion Sanders.
Of course, they all committed to media stuff after their playing careers were over ...
That's what Shannon Sharpe, the Hall of Fame tight end, did as well. He works on ESPN alongside Stephen A. Smith but he's also built his own brand.
He is the host of the Club Shay Shay podcast company which is rumored to be in line for a massive media contract because of the show's success.
According to Front Office Sports, Sharpe has an offer to sign a new deal worth up to $100 million once his current contract with Colin Cowherd's The Volume network expires.
Parsons - as he is wont to do - jumped into action on social media to offer a view. And while fans didn't like it, Micah forged on.
"You’ll be amazed about how many former players wish they got active in media before they retired, and that’s coming from legends of the game!" Parsons said. "Honestly motivates me to keep going!"
Micah is meanwhile also in line for a new deal with the Cowboys that could pay him a record $200 million over five years, CowboysCountry.com sources tell us.
He'll be set for life. He wants more.
Parsons podcast, The Edge with Micah Parsons, is in partnership with Bleacher Report and has had two successful seasons after debuting in 2023. He has welcomed guests like Derrick Henry, Bijan Robinson and C.J. Stroud.
Meanwhile, through four seasons, Parsons, 25, has totaled 52.5 sacks and 256 tackles, which is on pace for a Hall of Fame resume.
Talking and tweeting and commenting? It comes natural to Micah. There are those who have urged him, though, to focus on one thing.
But in the end? Parsons just found 100 million reasons to keep doing what he's doing.
Want more Cowboys? C'mon inside!
