Cowboys' Micah Parsons Reveals Contract Deadline

We have heard Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones and his famous "deadlines make deals" quote, and Micah Parsons has just doubled down on when the deadline is for his pending new contract is going to be.

Set to be paid as one of the highest non-quarterbacks in football at roughly $40 million APY, it has been slow going for Parsons as he searches for his new contract, but with the Cowboys, slow is often the only pace they move when it comes to big contracts.

Parsons stated his desire to get his future sorted out sooner rather than later during last season, and the fact that he's showing up to the voluntary part of the offseason workouts shows he's invested.

But as his contract situation appears to be moving at a glacial pace to being resolved, despite the swapping of figures multiple times. Micah reiterated how crucial it is to him to get his future sorted before training camp begins in Oxnard when speaking at the Annual Reliant HR Derby.

"Extremely important," Parsons said. "You really see a lot of players struggle when guys aren't participating in camp, and they get off to slow starts. I don't want to get off to no slow start, I want to hit the ground running and establish ourselves in this league, get some wins early in the season, and be in rhythm. It's going to be extremely important for me to get going and lead these guys."

With the Cowboys expected to begin training camp in late July, Jerry Jones will have a couple of months to sort this out before it becomes a problem.

We saw CeeDee Lamb struggle in the early part of the season as he was missing from training camp in search of a new contract, and it is clear that Micah doesn't want the same thing to happen to him.

He's seen as the new leader of the defense, with Jerry stating Parsons "has to be the player he wants to be paid as," and so far, Micah is doing all the right things.

But Parsons' goodwill is only going to go so far, and while the buck ultimately stops with Jerry, it's clear Micah wants his future sorted sooner rather than later.

Deadlines make deals, and Parsons has just given his.
