Cowboys Named 'Team To Watch' For Quarterback Trade

The Dallas Cowboys have Dak Prescott returning as their starting quarterback for the 2025 season but don't have a true backup QB on the roster.

Will Grier is the only other quarterback on the roster and in a perfect world, he's the Cowboys' third-string quarterback.

Cooper Rush had been the backup for the previous seven seasons before he signed with the Baltimore Ravens earlier this month. His contract was up and felt his best opportunity was with the Ravens.

He'll be the backup quarterback behind Ravens star quarterback Lamar Jackson for the next two years.

New England Patriots quarterback Joe Milton III has generated some trade interest around the league and according to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, the Cowboys are a "team to watch" for him.

"Joe Milton, this is a really interesting name in this quarterback carousel we're talking about because he has trade interest. The Patriots are exploring a trade. I'm told several teams are interested. One team to potentially watch for is the Dallas Cowboys because they are looking for a good backup, a young backup with upside they may not get in the draft, maybe they get in a trade," Fowler said during Wednesday's edition of "NFL Live," via Bleacher Report

Milton was a sixth-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft out of Tennessee and appeared in one game last season, finishing with 241 passing yards, one touchdown, and no interceptions.

He spent the first three years of his collegiate career with Michigan before spending three with Tennessee. His best season came in 2023 when he compiled 2,813 yards through the air, 20 touchdowns, and five interceptions.

He would be a good fit for the Cowboys due to his mobility and strong arm. They'll have to weigh whether it's worth giving up a pick for him compared to signing a quarterback in free agency or selecting one in the draft.
