Derek Carr's Brother Shares Update On Mysterious Injury

The New Orleans Saints are still unsure if they will have Derek Carr for the 2025 season.

Carr is dealing with a shoulder injury that could force him to miss the entire year. If that happens, the Saints may have to turn to Spencer Rattler or bring in someone else to start during the season.

David Carr, Derek's brother, joined NFL Network on Thursday to provide some updates on his brother and confirmed that Derek is working with Saints general manager Mickey Loomis to figure out what's best moving forward.

He also confirmed that the Saints have been aware of the shoulder injury since it happened, and Derek thinks he hurt it when he broke his wrist. He stopped throwing for a while, but once his wrist healed and he began throwing again, he realized the shoulder injury was still there.

Derek wants to rehab and play during the season, but no final decision has been made yet.

Carr has been with the Saints for the previous two seasons and played in 10 games during the 2024 season, finishing with 2,145 yards through the air, 15 touchdowns, and five interceptions.

He played the entire 2023 season, compiling 3,878 yards through the air, 25 touchdowns, and eight interceptions. He's been good when healthy, even though the Saints have missed the playoffs in both seasons that he has been the starter.

The Saints haven't made the playoffs since the 2020 season, when they lost in the divisional round. They want to change that in 2025, but it looks a bit murky due to the uncertainty at quarterback.

They hope to get an update on Carr as soon as possible, so they know what to expect from him in 2025.
