Former Vols QB Hendon Hooker has had it rough to start his NFL career. Tom Mazaway weighs in on the Lions' decision to turn away from the second-year QB.

Former Vols QB Hendon Hooker has had an unfortunate start to his career as he started his NFL career off with an injury and has been put on the back burner for a QB that was retired.

Hooker was the Detroit Lions backup QB to Jared Goff who had an exceptional season. Hooker had many solid moments when. He had the chance to play however when the playoffs hit the Lions made a franchise-wide decision to sign high school head coach and former NFL QB Teddy Bridgewater.

Bridgewater was retired for less than two years before returning to football. This sparked the attention of many Vols fans who were hopeful for a Hooker trade.

Lions personality Tom Mazaway is disappointed with how the situation unfolded making a strong statement.

“Don't you think they damaged him a little by what they did in the playoffs," Mazaway asked. "I mean, they damaged him. Because teams know. And if you're making this kid your benchwarmer, your emergency quarterback in a playoff game, and your quarterback goes down with a concussion, because Goff was concussed. He was playing concussed the rest of that game. To not bring your [second year] third-round pick in, that's completely healthy, to make him your emergency quarterback that day, that means the only way he would've played is if one of the quarterbacks, either Goff or Bridgewater, would have been ruled out for the game, so by the Lions dissing Hendon Hooker, I don't think he has any trade value. A seventh-round pick, that's all he's worth right now."

Hooker was involved in trade rumors that had him rumored to be traded to the Raiders however that quickly fell through. With the off-season nearing its pick it leaves the question “will Hendon Hooker be traded,” unsolved.

Browns insider predicts trade with Giants, stunning QB move

The Cleveland Browns possess the second overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. They are likely hoping that Miami's Cam Ward, the "consensus" No. 1 quarterback in this year's class, remains available after the Tennessee Titans make their selection with the first overall pick. However, Browns insider Tony Grossi of ESPN Cleveland/The Land on Demand and NFL reporter Darryl Slater of NJ Advance Media for NJ.com believe the Titans will take Ward with the draft's top pick. Thus, Grossi predicted in his latest mock draft that the Browns will trade their No. 2 selection to the New York Giants for pick No. 3 and choice No. 65 this year, along with a 2026 third-round pick. Grossi thinks this could result in the Giants taking Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders at No. 2 and the Browns landing Ole Miss signal-caller Jaxson Dart with the third pick. Following the NFL Scouting Combine, some speculated that the Browns could select Sanders with the second pick and that the Giants would "reach" for Dart at No. 3. Sanders has been linked with the Giants since at least December. Still, numerous reports revealed that some teams don't view him as a first-round prospect after he allegedly "hit the wrong notes in combine interviews." Perhaps there's reason to believe the Browns are one of those clubs. As of Thursday afternoon, the Giants and Browns continued to be mentioned as potential landing spots for veteran quarterbacks such as Aaron Rodgers, Russell Wilson and Kirk Cousins, even though the Atlanta Falcons seem serious about not releasing Cousins anytime soon. Grossi wrote that "signing either Cousins or Wilson might be the clearest signal yet of the Browns taking a position player other than quarterback with their first pick," and ESPN's Field Yates thinks Cleveland could draft Colorado wide receiver/cornerback Travis Hunter over both Sanders and Dart. Interestingly, Dart's supposed rise in draft stock has coincided with Sanders sliding down the board in mock drafts. It's difficult to know what to believe during the draft process's "smokescreen season," but it's worth noting that NFL insider Connor Hughes of SNY shared on March 5 that at least "one team source" had Dart ranked ahead of Sanders following the combine. It remains to be seen if the Browns or Giants would be bold enough to select Dart over Sanders with the second pick in the draft.

NHL Executive Leaks a Trade Kent Hughes Is Expected to Finalize in June

The trade deadline was, to say the least, quiet for Kent Hughes and the Montreal Canadiens. While many expected a major hockey trade, nothing ultimately materialized. However, this might just be a temporary delay, as behind the scenes in the NHL, reports suggest that Kent Hughes was very active last Friday. In a recent article by Marco D'Amico for the site RG.org, a league executive stated that he would be stunned if the Canadiens did not make a trade this summer. This Was Not the Right Time for Kent Hughes According to D'Amico's source, the trade deadline was not an opportune time for Kent Hughes to make a move. But the upcoming summer will be one to watch, and it could make a big splash. 'The trade deadline is not the time to build your team. There's a bidding war for every player. They tried to see what they could do, but with so few sellers, the prices were too high. I'd be stunned if the Canadiens didn't make a trade this summer to acquire a mid-20s center, especially with the arrival of young phenom Ivan Demidov next season. From what I hear, team management believes that's the missing piece to the lineup to make the playoffs. It's much easier to acquire a Top-6 center under contract in the summer than at the trade deadline.' - An NHL executive Additionally, Kent Hughes appears to have initiated discussions (last Friday) that could lead to a trade this summer. The Montreal Canadiens Are Definitely Looking to Improve Their Center Depth The source is clear: the price to improve on March 7 was extremely high. The Canadiens were actively looking to strengthen their center depth before the trade deadline. But with half of the league's teams doing the same, it didn't help Kent Hughes in his efforts. 'Almost every potential NHL playoff team was looking for help at center, and the options were very limited. Did you see the prices paid for Nelson, Laughton, and the other centers available just before the deadline? Those were very high prices because desperation is greater at this time of year.' - An NHL executive With Kirby Dach not performing at center and Alex Newhook definitely not being a Top-6 player, they certainly need to find a solution. Especially since the Habs need to properly surround Ivan Demidov for his NHL debut.. Options like Jordan Kyrou, Trevor Zegras, Mason McTavish, and possibly even Elias Pettersson could be interesting.

Steelers Were Very Surprised By Justin Fields And It Has Caused A Massive Problem

The Pittsburgh Steelers seemed to have two legitimate options for their starting quarterback spot for the 2025 season. Russell Wilson and Justin Fields were brought to Pittsburgh ahead of the 2024 season on bargain deals. Fields started the first six games, but when Wilson returned from a calf injury, he finished the season as the starter. Fields handled the benching like a professional, but it feels like he didn’t take a liking to that decision from Mike Tomlin. The Steelers seemed to be in on Fields for the 2025 season, but he ultimately decided to leave when he received a better offer from the New York Jets. It was clear that the Steelers had faith in his potential, but Fields’ situation in Pittsburgh appeared to be a bit more complicated after the season. With his departure, the Steelers were forced to rethink their quarterback options, possibly shifting their focus to other candidates or adjusting their plans altogether. Steelers insider Ray Fittipaldo joined The Pomp And Joe Show on 93.7 The Fan on Friday, where he shared some interesting information about Fields leaving for the Jets. Fittipaldo suggested that the decision came down to the Jets offering a more secure role for Fields, which was something the Steelers couldn’t guarantee him in 2025. This insight added another layer to the quarterback drama that has been unfolding in Pittsburgh, leaving fans wondering what the future holds for the position. "What we know at this point, is I do think the Steelers were caught off guard by Justin Fields leaving to the Jets," Fittipaldo said. "It would have been super simple. That was the first guy that they wanted." Fittipaldo shared something rather interesting about the Steelers being taken aback by the fact that Fields actually left them. It was reported that Tomlin likely expected to secure Fields on a discount, given his situation with the team. For Fields, his first six games in Pittsburgh were the best he had shown as a quarterback in the league, primarily because he protected the football and still managed to flash moments of brilliance. The Steelers saw potential in him but weren’t willing to meet his demands. However, Pittsburgh wasn’t willing to go as far as the Jets were in their offer to Fields, and that’s ultimately why he chose to leave. The situation came as a shock to the Steelers, who probably felt that Fields would be their top option for the 2025 season. Instead, he opted for more guaranteed money and the assurance that he would be the starting quarterback. That, apparently, was something the Steelers weren’t willing to provide him. The Steelers’ inability to guarantee Fields the starting role and secure his future in Pittsburgh ultimately led to his departure. While the team had shown confidence in him, they failed to offer the kind of stability that Fields was looking for, which paved the way for the Jets to make their move. This surprising turn of events left the Steelers reevaluating their quarterback strategy for the 2025 season. Steelers Losing Justin Fields Has Created Massive Uncertainty The Steelers’ first option was Fields, and his departure has created chaos within the organization. As soon as they realized the market for Fields was going to be much higher than they were willing to go, Pittsburgh began considering other quarterback options. Fields’ midseason benching in 2024 actually worked in his favor, as it highlighted his first six starts, which were solid, productive, and, most importantly, demonstrated his ability to protect the football. These performances, especially his flashes of brilliance, kept him fresh in the minds of teams in need of a quarterback, like the Jets. These highlight-reel moments gave the Jets and others the confidence to pursue Fields, knowing he still had untapped potential. Now, with the Steelers seemingly all in on Aaron Rodgers, they face the possibility of missing out on him and being left without a solid quarterback option for 2025. The surprise of Fields leaving has exposed the Steelers’ lack of a backup plan, leaving the team scrambling to reassess their quarterback situation and causing massive uncertainty in the Steel City.

Warriors quietly developing another sharpshooting threat

The Golden State Warriors have long been renowned for their ability to identify and develop elite shooters, from Stephen Curry to, in the past, Klay Thompson. This season, Moses Moody has emerged as a reliable perimeter threat, shooting 39% from beyond the arc, while the acquisition of Buddy Hield has only bolstered Golden State’s deep-shooting arsenal. However, down in the G League, the franchise may be quietly cultivating its next sharpshooter. Rookie Blake Hinson has turned heads with the Santa Cruz Warriors, building on a strong collegiate career at Ole Miss and Pittsburgh, where he set a school record for the Panthers with 110 three-pointers in a single season. The 25-year-old has quickly established himself as one of the premier long-range marksmen in the G League. After a relatively slow start in the Tip-Off Tournament, Hinson has found his stride in the regular season. Through 26 games, he is averaging 18.8 points and 4.7 rebounds while shooting 44% from the field. Over the past month, however, he has taken his game to another level. On Feb. 13, he tallied a career-high 42 points, 11 rebounds and eight three-pointers in a win over the Stockton Kings. More recently, on March 12, he poured in 37 points on 6-of-9 shooting from deep — just days after a 34-point outing. Through February and March, Hinson is averaging 25.2 points and 5.9 rebounds while shooting a scorching 39.3% from three. His consistency has placed him atop the G League leaderboard in three-pointers made (93), while his 488 total points rank seventh in the league. At 6-foot-8, the Santa Cruz forward possesses a solid blend of size and shooting ability, making him an intriguing prospect. His versatility to play multiple positions aligns well with Golden State’s offensive philosophy, and his efficiency from deep mirrors the Warriors' emphasis on perimeter shooting. After going undrafted in 2024, Hinson signed a two-way deal with the Los Angeles Lakers but was waived before the season. He later joined the Warriors on an Exhibit 10 contract before being released and landing in Santa Cruz on a standard G League deal. Notably, he is not on assignment from Golden State or signed to a two-way contract, meaning any NBA team can call him up at any time. With his scoring prowess and three-point efficiency, Hinson may not stay in the G League for long. Whether the Warriors act quickly to secure his future or risk losing him to another team remains to be seen.
