The Detroit Lions are coming off a 15-win season in 2024.
They got the top seed in the NFC heading into the playoffs before losing to the Washington Commanders in the divisional round. They then had to replace both coordinators (Ben Johnson and Aaron Glenn) during the offseason since they became head coaches.
Johnson left to be the head coach of the Chicago Bears while Glenn became the head coach of the New York Jets.
They have the 28th overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft on Thursday and made a roster move before the annual event started on Wednesday, releasing quarterback Jake Fromm.
Jared Goff, Hendon Hooker, and Kyle Allen are the three quarterbacks still on the roster and it's expected to stay that way unless they add another one via the draft or after the draft. Goff will be the starter for this season while Hooker will be the backup.
Fromm was on the Lions' practice squad during the 2024 season and has also spent time with the Buffalo Bills, Washington Commanders, and New York Giants. He appeared in three games during the 2021 season with the Giants, finishing with 210 passing yards, one touchdown, and three interceptions.
The Lions are looking to take another step in 2025 after they were the top team in the NFC during the 2024 regular season. They have never won a Super Bowl and want that to change ASAP.
Goff had a remarkable season again in 2024, compiling 4,629 passing yards, 37 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions. He has been with the Lions for four seasons and has thrown for over 4,000 yards in three of them.
The 2025 NFL Draft will start at 8 p.m. ET on Thursday.
