Ex Chiefs Defender Back on Team's Free-Agent Radar
Geoff Burke-USA TODAY Sports

The Kansas City Chiefs could bring home a familiar name to its fanbase and not have it cost the team a draft pick. In fact, they should be able to get him on sale due to his unemployment this late in the offseason.

Cornerback Kendall Fuller, who was known as a piece the Chiefs got in return from the Washington Commanders in exchange for quarterback Alex Smith, was recently waived by the Miami Dolphins. He did not meet expectations in Miami and was a salary-cap casualty this spring.

When he was with the Commanders, he garnered 10 interceptions over four seasons and used that as collateral on a two-year deal with the Dolphins, which lasted only one season. Fuller was deemed expendable by Miami after he allowed 27 catches on 43 targets.

The Chiefs could select a cornerback in the draft and pay the rookie wage, but if they could pick up Fuller under a salary-cap friendly contract, the Chiefs could use their eight draft choices on more pressing needs. The Chiefs need to add a pass rusher, offensive tackle and a running back. They could also use depth at the wide receiver position if they can get a good value in the later rounds.

There is no word out of Kansas City if they are looking for a reunion with Fuller, but it just makes sense. Whether he is a starter or used in nickel and dime packages he could prove to be a good value if the price is right. Fuller should sign for much less than the $7.5 million annual average value he obtained from the Dolphins.
