Former Washington Commanders starting quarterback Robert Griffin III is expected to be hired by Fox Sports to serve as a college football commentator.
The Athletic reports that Fox is expected to hire Griffin to work on the No. 2 announcing team. He will replace Brock Huard, who stepped aside from his broadcast duties to help coach his son’s high-school football team.
Griffin is expected to team with play-by-player Jason Benetti.
Griffin was a commentator for ESPN on its college telecasts until he was fired last season. He was almost hired by Fox last season to replace Reggie Bush on its Big Noon Kickoff Show when the two sides were involved in a contract dispute.
According to The Athletic, Griffin could also make periodic appearances on studio shows, but he would be specifically hired to do color on game telecasts.
ESPN let Griffin go last August on the eve of football season.
He is a former Heisman Trophy winner from Baylor and was drafted No. 2 overall in 2012. He won NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year and played with Washington through 2015 when injuries cut his career.
