The Atlanta Falcons have brought in a backup quarterback, signing Easton Stick on Monday. He was the 166th pick in 2019 by the Los Angeles Chargers after four FCS Titles with North Dakota State.
Stick has played six games and started four. He has 3 touchdowns to 1 interception and 1,133 passing yards. He mainly backed up Justin Herbert and came in a few times during his injury-riddled season in 2023.
Stick joins a quarterback room with Michael Penix Jr., Kirk Cousins and Emory Jones. Stick will most likely be the backup if a trade for Cousins happens, and he has shown flashes as a backup back in LA. Stick was also very successful in college and has stuck around the league because he is always ready to step up if needed.
Stick is signing in perfect time to be able to participate in the Falcons offseason program and will look to compete with Jones for that third spot at the moment which could potentially be a second spot if a trade happens.
While this may not be the big quarterback news that Falcons fans are expecting, it does bring in a competent backup if Penix struggles. This also gives the Falcons more depth in the position and could make it easier for them to figure something out on the Cousins end.
The draft is approaching, and more and more questions keep popping up about Cousins, Kyle Pitts and the defensive line, this signing could be a step in the direction of answering one of these questions.
