Falcons Sign Ex Steelers Receiver
USA TODAY Sports

The Pittsburgh Steelers have had a mostly uneventful offseason as the first wave of free agency has passed.

A trade for veteran star wideout D.K. Metcalf highlighted a few other under-the-radar moves, like re-signing quarterback Mason Rudolph a season after kicking him to the proverbial curb.

While the team struggled with consistency last season in the wide receiver room, the Metcalf deal is meant to solidify the position.

Regardless of numerous rumors involving the trade of George Pickens, who struggled as the No. 1 option last year, additional moves are expected, even as the Steelers weigh options at quarterback and wait for an answer from Aaron Rodgers.

Last season, Pittsburgh signed Jamal Agnew Jr. to the practice squad but he never saw the field after recovering from an injury in 2023.

On Thursday, NFL Network's Mike Garafolo reported Agnew has signed a one-year deal worth up to $2.5 million with the Atlanta Falcons.

"The #Falcons have agreed to terms with former #Jaguars WR/returner Jamal Agnew on a one-year deal worth a max of $2.5 million, source says. Agnew was on the #Steelers’ practice squad last year as he recovered from a broken leg suffered late in 2023. Now fully healthy for Atlanta."

Agnew is 29 and was a fifth-round pick of the Lions in 2017. He earned first-team All-Pro honors his rookie season in Detroit and led the NFL in punt return yards with 447 and touchdowns with two.

Agnew could've competed for a depth position with the Steelers had they kept him, but instead, he'll be playing in Atlanta in 2025.
