Former Chiefs Super Bowl Champion Announces Retirement Decision

NFL wide receiver and former Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl champion Kadarius Toney has been hearing the whispers that he's considering retirement.

Toney, who was arrested back in February and accused of strangling a woman in an incident on Jan. 14, addressed the rumors in an Instagram story on Thursday. Essentially, the 26-year-old former first-round draft pick isn't hanging up his cleats, but he does appreciate all the talk about it because it helps his music career.

"Goofies on the net hollering im retiring," Toney wrote. "Just want klout...ain't speaking on the [s--t] nomo.

"Love da attention for my musik tho....It's been a passion."

A draft bust who wore out his welcome with the New York Giants, Toney was traded to the Chiefs midway through the 2022 season.

While he didn't exactly set the world on fire with KC, Toney did score a critical fourth-quarter touchdown in Super Bowl LVII and set up another score with a 65-yard punt return, the longest in Super Bowl history.

Toney appeared in 13 games for the Chiefs in 2023, logging 27 receptions for 169 yards and one touchdown. Kansas City released him in August 2024, and the University of Florida product eventually resurfaced with the Cleveland Browns' practice squad.

In his only game appearance with the Browns, Toney muffed a punt, earned a taunting penalty and lost seven yards on his only carry in a 27-14 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Currently a free agent, Toney has flopped with three different franchises so far, failing with the dregs of the league and the NFL's most successful organization. Given his resume and recent brush with the law, we can't imagine teams will be beating down the door to give Toney an opportunity this summer.

You never know though. It only takes one organization to bring him to training camp.
