Former Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Kadarius Toney has been a subject in the media over the last 24 hours. The former Chief got caught in a lie surrounding his retirement from the National Football League, but has since been debunked by Toney himself.
This all started when fans on social media claimed that the former Kansas City wide receiver revealed he would be hanging up his cleats to further pursue a career in the music industry. While the transition would be an interesting one, the claims were false, as Toney addressed the rumors on his social media page.
“Goofies on the net hollerin I’m retiring,” Toney wrote on his Instagram story. “Just want Klout. Ain’t speakin on the [poop emoji] nomo.”
His musical passion however isn't a lie, as Toney revealed he has a strong passion for expressing himself creatively through that avenue. Making light of the situation, the former first round draft pick appreciates the attention on his rapping career.
“Love da attention for my musik tho. It’s been a passion," Toney wrote.
The former Florida Gator found his way to the Chiefs franchise after spending his first two NFL seasons with the New York Giants, the team that drafted him. He spent two seasons in Kansas City, playing in 20 games and three playoff games.
He never panned out the way that the Giants would have hoped, but the Chiefs were able to bring out some promising signs in him. As a Chief, he totaled 340 receiving yards, 90 rushing yards, and 119 punt return yards. He also scored his only three professional touchdowns while donning a Chiefs uniform.
Last season, the former Chief spent three games with the Cleveland Browns, while only being targeted once. The biggest reason behind his eventual Browns release was due to handling a punt poorly and picking up a taunting penalty during a game.
Given he hasn't retired, Toney is still not on a professional roster going into the 2025 NFL campaign. After seeing what he was able to do last year, or wasn't able to do, rather, certain franchises have a decision to make if they want to take a chance on the former first-rounder.
