The 2024 NFL season capped off with the Philadelphia Eagles defeating the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX. Now, teams are looking ahead to next season with free agency right around the corner.
On Friday, this year's wide receiver class got a bit of an upgrade as former Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Michael Gallup is planning to make a return to the NFL in 2025, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.
Gallup signed with the Las Vegas Raiders prior to last season. But just before training camp began, the former Colorado State star decided to hang it up at the age of 28.
"Veteran WR Michael Gallup, whom the #Raiders released from the reserve/retired list today, wants to return to the NFL in 2025, per source," Pelissero wrote on X. "Gallup had 266 career catches in 86 career games with Dallas before signing with Las Vegas last year. He just turned 29."

After two years with Butler Community College and another two with Colorado State, Gallup was selected with the No. 81 pick in the 2018 NFL draft. Gallup had a solid rookie season but really broke out in his second year, recording career highs of 66 catches for 1,107 yards and six touchdowns.
After another solid performance in the 2020 campaign, Gallup suffered a torn ACL midway through 2021, forcing him to miss the rest of the year. He was never the same after his injury. In his final two years in Dallas, Gallup totaled 73 catches for 842 yards and six touchdowns.
If Gallup were to play similarly to how he did in his first few seasons, he would certainly be a solid addition to an NFL team. Over his tenure with the Cowboys, he worked with a few different superstar wide receivers as well, learning from some of the best, including CeeDee Lamb and Amari Cooper.
