After appearing in only five games during his rookie season, Kayshon Boutte made significant improvements in his second year with the New England Patriots.
Originally selected in the sixth round of the 2023 draft, Boutte arguably made the biggest leap among sophomore receivers in the NFL last season.
So what does this mean? It may suggest that he has become expendable.
This is surprising, especially considering the chemistry he was developing with Drake Maye, as both young players continue to emerge.
According to Fox Sports NFL Insider Jordan Schultz, Boutte might be on the move. Here’s what Schultz shared on the X App:
“The #Patriots, with Mike Vrabel at the helm, are open to trading players from the previous coaching staff — and one name to watch is WR Kayshon Boutte.
The former LSU receiver turns 23 next month and had 43 catches for 589 yards, with 3 touchdowns last season.”
The Patriots acquired free agent wide receiver Stefon Diggs from Houston this offseason. However, based on the current depth chart, Kayshon Boutte is still set to start alongside Diggs and DeMario Douglas.
Additionally, the Patriots signed Mack Hollins from Buffalo to a very cap-friendly two-year deal. The roster also includes Kendrick Bourne, Javon Baker, John Jiles, Ja'Lynn Polk, and JaQuae Jackson.
Boutte had a highly productive three seasons at Baton Rouge, recording 131 catches for a total of 1,781 yards and 16 touchdowns during his time at LSU.
In 2020, Kayshon recorded seven games with over 100 yards against SEC competition, including a record 308 yards and 3 TDS on 14 catches in a dramatic season-ending win against Ole Miss.
