Former Patriots Receiver Re-Signs With Chiefs

Former New England Patriots receiver Juju Smith-Schuster has re-signed with the Kansas City Chiefs on a one-year deal, the team announced.

Smith-Schuster spent the season with 2022 season in Kansas City and was a part of that super bowl-winning team. He had 78 catches for 933 yards and three touchdowns in 2022. The 933 yards were his most in a season since he racked up 1,426 yards in 2018.

After the 2022 season, Smith-Schuster inked a three-year deal worth $25.5 million with the Patriots. That contract, however, did not go according to plan at all.

He hauled in just 29 catches for 260 yards and one touchdown for New England in 2023. Injuries and lack of production caused him to not only miss six games in 2023 but also be released by the Patriots prior to the start of the 2024 season.

Just days before the 2024 season began, the Chiefs signed Smith-Schuster to a one-year deal, and he rejoined the team that he won a Super Bowl with. He finished with 231 receiving yards, with 130 of those coming in one game against the New Orleans Saints.

Smith-Schuster was a bit productive in the postseason, collecting four catches for 76 yards in two games. Now, he returns back to the Chiefs where he is not only familiar with the system but can also continue to mentor Kansas City's young receiving core.

The 1,000-yard seasons from the veteran receiver are long gone but his ability to serve as a veteran in the locker room is far more important than his talent on the field.
