For Las Vegas Raiders fans, the wait is finally over.

Since acquiring quarterback Geno Smith in a trade from the Seattle Seahawks last month, rumors of an extension swirled almost immediately. Smith’s contract was set to expire after the 2025 season, and fans hoped this was not just the latest attempt at a one-year fix. After a brief delay, the Raiders and Smith got a deal done on Thursday to keep the quarterback under contract in Las Vegas until 2027.

With that issue settled, Smith could finally be properly introduced to Raider Nation.

Smith talked about his NFL journey during his introductory press conference.

On Monday, Smith was introduced in a press conference at the Intermountain Health Performance Center in Henderson, flanked by head coach Pete Carroll and general manager John Spytek.

“We’re here to win, we’re here to do this thing the right way,” Smith said during his opening remarks. “I want to lead the right way, I want to be a big part of the culture here.“

During the conference, he mentioned how big a role Carroll played in his NFL career. Smith and Carroll were together with the Seattle Seahawks for four seasons from 2020-23, including the former’s breakout season in 2022. That year, Smith threw for 4,282 yards and a career-high 30 touchdowns, cementing his spot as a starting quarterback.

“I would call him whenever I got frustrated. He talked me through things, and he still coached me,” Smith said about Carroll. “And I think that’s what makes him such a special man, is that he was coaching me even when he wasn’t my HC.”

“I’ll run through a brick wall for this man.”

Smith is now tasked to lead a Raiders passing attack that has intriguing pieces, but was limited due to inconsistent quarterback play last season. Despite that, Brock Bowers smashed records as a rookie tight end, while wide receiver Jakobi Meyers completed his first 1,000-yard season. While more help is likely on the way, Smith showed excitement in working with the weapons he already has at his disposal.

“I was just talking to Jakobi, always thought he was a really good player,” Smith said about his new receivers. “Brock Bowers, he’s an All-Pro and I still think he’s got so much room to grow & improve—and a big part of my job is to help him do that & and he can help me improve as well.”

With the offseason workouts scheduled to begin tomorrow, introducing Smith was a big way to kick this week off for the Raiders with a bang.
