The New York Giants were linked to Shedeur Sanders leading up to the NFL Draft, but it turns out he was not even the second-highest-ranked quarterback on their board. One longtime analyst tried to tell everyone that.
In an episode of his self-titled podcast that was published on Thursday, Todd McShay said Sanders bombed a predraft interview with the Giants and was off of their board as a result.
"Shedeur is not in play at No. 3. Shedeur is not in play with the New York Giants as far as I'm told," McShay said. "Shedeur didn't have a great interview with Brian Daboll in a private visit. An install package came in. The preparation wasn't there for it. He got called out on it, didn't like that. Brian didn't appreciate him not liking it."
After the Giants traded up to select former Ole Miss quarterback Jaxson Dart with the 25th overall pick, Daboll was asked about the report that he was unimpressed with Sanders. He essentially took the high road.
"I'd say we had good meetings with all the guys that came in here in our 30 visits. The quarterback meetings were productive, and we're happy with Jaxson," Daboll said.
Brian Daboll was asked about a report that he and Shedeur Sanders had a meeting that did not go well:

Daboll could have put the rumors to rest, but he chose not to. That may have been because he wanted to keep the focus on Dart. Or, it is possible that McShay's report was accurate and Daboll did not want to confirm it.
Sanders slid all the way to pick No. 144 (Cleveland Browns), which was a stunning development. If some of his predraft interviews went as poorly as reports have indicated, that might help explain why so many teams have passed on the former Colorado star.
