Giants Reveal New Jersey Numbers
© Lucas Boland-USA TODAY Sports

On Monday, the New York Giants welcomed players back into the facility for the first set of offseason workouts, essentially an opportunity to shake hands, meet new teammates, and make a handful of first impressions.

Nevertheless, it’s a brief reminder that football will be played again, a dose of football in the abyss of the news and rumors of the NFL offseason.

The social media team took full advantage, although nobody actually took the field. It’s a step on the football calendar and it serves to show that the new-look Giants do in fact look different.

New York will have a few more jersey numbers to announce after the NFL Draft, but the Giants revealed their new numbers for their veterans and offseason acquisitions on Tuesday.

Existing Veterans

  • Safety Tyler Nubin – 27
  • Receiver Darius Slayton – 18
  • Corner Deonte Banks – 2

Incoming Free Agents

  • Quarterback Russell Wilson – 3
  • Quarterback Jameis Winston – 19
  • Receiver Montrell Washington – 80
  • Receiver Lil’Jordan Humphrey – 81
  • Receiver Zach Pascal – 83
  • Offensive Tackle James Hudson III – 55
  • Offensive Tackle Stone Forsythe – 70
  • Defensive Tackle Jeremiah Ledbetter – 96
  • Defensive Tackle Roy Robertson-Harris – 99
  • Edge Rusher Chauncey Golston – 57
  • Edge Rusher Victor Dimukeje – 52
  • Linebacker Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles – 44
  • Linebacker Chris Broad – 49
  • Cornerback Paulson Adebo – 21
  • Cornerback Nic Jones – 31
  • Safety Jevon Holland – 8

Nubin spoke on Monday about how his change from 31 to 27 is meaningful as a tribute to his uncle, who passed away.

“So, 27 actually started originally with my uncle, Uncle Steve,” Nubin said. “He actually played cornerback at the University of Michigan opposite Charles Woodson in college back in '94. He passed away 10, 12 years ago. That's really important to me.

“He actually and my dad and his other brother, they also wore 27 in college too, and they didn't even plan it. They all went to three different colleges and all ended up picking 27. It's kind of like a family number. It's an honor to be able to bring it to the NFL for the first time.”

Slayton will also get a refurbished aesthetic for his third stint with New York, and it’s notable that Banks gave his number to Wilson, who was happy to shout him out on social media.

For now, the digit the New York faithful have to worry about is No. 1, stitched onto their blue jersey to be held in Green Bay on Thursday.
